Public History & Education
Archaeological and historical projects provide important data and insight into this nation’s history. In years past, such data often was not shared much beyond the practitioners and parties directly involved in the projects. In recent years however, this has changed as participation in and dissemination of the findings of cultural resources projects is encouraged so that everyone benefits from the knowledge, so that we don’t dig up our history only to relegate it to storage boxes in a curation facility. Thus, cultural resources projects often have a public outreach and education component, such as site visits and tours, informational websites, museum exhibits, interpretive panels and kiosks, public lectures, and media interviews. Southern Research is experienced in translating the significance of historic research and project findings to the public through these and other educational avenues.
