Industrial Archaeology & History

There is a rich history of industrial endeavors in the United States, with the physical remains an important part of the story. From small-scale individual engineered sites to vast industrial complexes, industrial sites typically contain a mixture of above-ground and archaeological remains, and often pose hazardous conditions to work in. Southern Research has conducted historical and archaeological studies on nineteenth and early twentieth century industrial sites such as grist mills, textile factories, power generating facilities, masonry and timber frame dams, historic railroads, a sawmill, a paper mill, and a cotton seed oil mill.
