Susanne has been a Public History Specialist and Laboratory Technician at Southern Research since 2006. She earned a B.A. in History and a M.A. in Education at Columbus College and after 33 years of teaching high school history in our community, she took her dream job, as she says, at our company. Susanne has a keen eye and quickly mastered the identification of artifacts ranging from Native American lithics and ceramics to historicResources that are 50 years old or older. period ceramics and glass. For the last 16 years, she has processed all the artifacts coming from Southern Research’s surveys and excavations including cleaning, stabilization, identification, data entry, and preparation for permanent curation. Her teaching experience made her an excellent choice for our Public Outreach Programs including leading public history hikes at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain and working with the U.S. Forest Service’s Passport in Time (PIT) Program in the North Georgia Mountains. Her husband, Don, is also a retired teacher.
