Jacob Hockenberry, MHP
Architectural Historian
Jacob joined Southern Research as their Architectural Historian in November 2024. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania in 2018 and his Master of Science in Historic Preservation from Clemson University in 2024. He has worked on preservation projects in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia. His past projects include property histories, architectural survey reports, HABS measured drawings, cultural landscape reports, historic structures reports, and condition assessments. He has a strong interest in utilizing geographic information systems (GIS) for managing and mapping historic cultural resources, along with an interest in environmental, industrial, and agricultural histories. In his role, Jacob authors historic resources survey reports, evaluates the eligibility of properties for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), completes photographic archival documentation, and develops historic narratives for both state and federal agencies. When he isn’t working, he enjoys lifting weights, reading, spending time with his girlfriend Mackenzie, and naturally, admiring old buildings.
